Check with a magnet
Many newer west-side homes have acrylic or fiberglass tubs, which we don't refinish.
The west side mixes brand-new subdivisions with much older homes. Here's how to know whether your tub is one we can refinish.
We'll be straightforward: a lot of the housing in Kapolei, Makakilo's newer sections, Ocean Pointe, Hoakalei and ʻEwa Gentry was built from the 1990s onward, and many of those homes have acrylic or fiberglass tubs and tub-shower units. We don't refinish those.
The test takes five seconds: hold a fridge magnet to the side of the tub. If it sticks, the tub is steel or cast iron and we can help. If it slides off, it's plastic. More detail in what tub do I have?
The older parts of the ʻEwa plain are a different story. Plantation-era homes in ʻEwa Villages, the older streets of ʻEwa Beach, 1960s–70s homes in Makakilo and much of Waipahu have steel and cast iron tubs with decades of wear — exactly what we refinish.
The leeward side is hot and dry compared with the rest of the island, but tubs here get heavy daily use and near the coast still see salt air. Worn enamel, rusty drains and chips are the usual complaints. One three-hour visit and a flat $635 takes care of all of them.
